Large building with excellent views of the quayside, but also facing the main street on the other side. There are distinct and separate bars on two levels, and also a basement Schooner Bar which is popular with young revellers on Saturday nights. Having been refurbished some time ago it is now called the Cooil Bar. where live music features often. The main bar with real ales is one floor up, and overlooks the working harbour. There is another bar on the ground level, used at peak periods and weekends, where it serves cocktails. The upstairs is very traditionally furnished to a high standard, with now rare crushed velvet curtains. Live music in the Harbour Bar is put on frequently. Okell's Jough Bitter is always on sale here, a house beer only made for The Mitre.Built in 1840 as a hotel, the interior has comfortable seating and a friendly atmosphere. Much refurbished in recent years, and though the bar has a traditional look to it, the décor is to a good standard. The upstairs bar stocks a keg beer from Kaneen's brewery, based on the island on the island, called Keshal.
